IPIDEO Project Annual Meeting

A brilliant launch for the IPIDEO project: Study of plant-insect interactions and the factors influencing behaviour using digital tools and video tracking.

On 23, 24 and 25 September, the partners of the IPIDEO project came together for their very first in-person meeting at the Sophia Agrobiotech Institute. IPIDEO is a project selected under the 2025 call for proposals of the PEPR Agroecology and Digital programme.

The programme included scientific presentations, group workshops organised by work packages, and fruitful discussions aimed at forging strong links between the participants’ digital and agroecological expertise.

Among the objectives: to implement video tracking of insects (bees, aphids, butterflies and trichogramma wasps) from 2D to 3D, in order to better understand their behaviour in the face of environmental and climatic constraints (e.g. water stress, heat stress, pollutants) and their contribution to agroecological practices (pollination, integrated pest management, biodiversity).

IPIDEO is already benefiting from the results of PhD research commenced in 2023 (Yuan Gao’s PhD) and in 2025 (Océane Gourdin’s PhD), funded by the PEPR’s call for doctoral and postdoctoral projects.

Challenges already underway:

  • The development of systems for monitoring pollinators under controlled conditions in the laboratory and in the natural environment.
  • Learning to use the PIXANO software for reading and annotating 2D/3D images for the purposes of training in insect recognition and the study of their behaviour.

Our warmest congratulations on this promising momentum in both agroecological and digital science – we look forward to following the progress!
